A Rich Pirate Legacy on Maryland Waters
Maryland’s coastline and the Chesapeake Bay have long been steeped in pirate lore, giving us a fiery sense of heritage that pairs perfectly with our sauces. Seafarers like William Cotter, a 17th-century pirate who settled here, left their mark on Anne Arundel County. And later, during the Oyster Wars (1865–1959), oyster pirates clashed with authorities along the Bay — a salty chapter in Maryland history. Not to mention, infamous buccaneers such as Blackbeard are believed to have used Maryland’s secluded coves to repair ships and lay low. These stories of rebellion, grit, and high-seas risk help inspire the bold spirit behind our spice blends.
